Car
If you are driving, your journey to Grutas Tolantongo begins on the main highway. From Pachuca, take the Mexico-Pachuca highway (Mex 85D) heading east towards the city of Tula. After approximately 55 km, take the exit towards Cardonal (Hidalgo). Continue on the road for about 30 km until you reach the town of Cardonal. Once you arrive in Cardonal, follow the signs for Grutas Tolantongo, which is approximately 10 km from the town center. Please note there is an entrance fee of around 100 MXN per person for access to the park.
Bus
If you are using public transportation, you can take a bus from Pachuca to Cardonal. Buses leave regularly from the main bus station in Pachuca. The journey typically takes around 1.5 to 2 hours. Once you arrive at the Cardonal bus terminal, you will need to take a taxi or a local bus to Grutas Tolantongo. This last leg of the journey is about 10 km, and taxis should cost around 100 MXN. Ensure to confirm the fare before starting your ride.
Shared Van
An alternative public transport option is the shared van (colectivo). From the Pachuca bus station, look for vans heading to Cardonal. These vans are usually quicker and may cost around 50-70 MXN per person. Upon arriving in Cardonal, you will still need to take a taxi or local bus to Grutas Tolantongo, similar to the bus route.
