Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving from a major city in Southeastern Mexico, such as Tuxtla Gutierrez, first take Highway 190 northeast towards the border with Guatemala. Continue on this highway until you reach the town of San Cristóbal de las Casas. From there, follow Route 190 until you reach the junction with Highway 185D. Take Highway 185D north towards the city of Villahermosa. Once in Villahermosa, switch to Highway 180 and head west until you reach the Mexican border. Cross into the United States and continue on Highway 10 until you reach New Mexico. From here, follow NM-61 south towards Faywood, where City of Rocks State Park is located at 327 NM-61. Keep in mind that there may be tolls along some of these routes, particularly on the highways in Mexico.

• Public Transportation

  For those relying on public transportation, take a bus from your location in Southeastern Mexico to a major city such as Villahermosa or Tuxtla Gutierrez. Buses frequently travel between cities, and you can check with local bus companies for schedules and routes. Once you arrive at the bus station in either city, you will need to take a connecting bus towards the U.S. border. After crossing the border, you can take a Greyhound or similar long-distance bus service to Silver City, NM. From Silver City, take a taxi or rideshare service to City of Rocks State Park. Be aware that the total travel time may be lengthy, and it's advisable to check the bus schedule beforehand to ensure timely connections.

  Once you arrive in Faywood, NM, the nearest city to City of Rocks State Park, you can use local taxi services or rideshare apps like Uber to reach the park. The park is approximately 10 minutes away from Faywood, and you can find rideshare options available in the area. Make sure to confirm the ride with the driver as some may not be familiar with the park location.
