Car
If you're traveling by car, start by heading south on the Mexico-Cuernavaca Highway (Autopista del Sol). From Mexico City, take the highway towards Cuernavaca. After approximately 70 kilometers, take the exit for Tepoztlán. Follow the signs directing you into the town of Tepoztlán. Once you arrive in Tepoztlán, look for signs that lead to Parque Nacional El Tepozteco. You will need to park at designated areas near the entrance, as parking is limited. Expect to pay a small fee for parking, usually around 20-50 pesos.
Public Transportation
To reach Parque Nacional El Tepozteco via public transport, take a bus from Mexico City to Tepoztlán. Buses leave from the Terminal de Autobuses de Pasajeros de Cuautla (TAC) or Terminal de Autobuses de Pasajeros de Taxqueña. The bus ride takes about 1.5 to 2 hours, and the fare is typically around 100-150 pesos. Once you arrive at Tepoztlán, you can either take a taxi or walk to the entrance of Parque Nacional El Tepozteco, which is approximately 2 kilometers from the bus station. Taxis are available at the bus station and should cost around 50-80 pesos.
Combination (Bus + Walk)
If you prefer a combination of public transportation and walking, take the Metro to the Tasqueña station. From there, find the bus terminal and take a bus to Tepoztlán as described previously. Upon arriving in Tepoztlán, walk towards the entrance of Parque Nacional El Tepozteco. The walk is approximately 30 minutes and is uphill, so be prepared for a bit of a hike. This option is great for those who want to enjoy the local scenery and atmosphere.
