Getting There

• Car

  If you're driving from Cancun, take Highway 307 south towards Tulum. Continue on Highway 307 until you reach Felipe Carrillo Puerto, where you will turn left onto Highway 186. Follow Highway 186 until you reach Bacalar. The total drive is about 4 to 5 hours, depending on traffic. Make sure to fill up your gas tank before leaving major cities, as there are limited services along the way. Parking is available near the lagoon.

• Bus

  For those using public transport, you can take an ADO bus from Cancun to Bacalar. Buses leave regularly from the ADO terminal in Cancun and the journey takes about 5 to 6 hours. Make sure to buy your tickets in advance, especially during peak tourist seasons. Once you arrive at the Bacalar bus station, you can take a taxi to the lagoon, which should cost around 50-100 pesos.

• Shared Shuttle

  Another option is to book a shared shuttle service from Cancun or Playa del Carmen directly to Bacalar. Various companies offer this service, and you can book online. The journey takes about 4 to 5 hours and often includes pick-up from your hotel. Prices vary but typically range from 800 to 1500 pesos per person. This is a convenient option if you prefer door-to-door service.

• Local Transport

  Once in Bacalar, you can rent a bicycle or a scooter to explore the area around the lagoon. There are several rental shops near the lagoon that offer reasonable rates. Additionally, local taxis are available if you want to visit nearby attractions or restaurants.
