Located in the heart of Bender, the Monument to Russian Glory is an iconic landmark that commemorates the military achievements of Russian forces during the 19th century. Inaugurated in 1912, the monument celebrated the centenary of the victory in the Patriotic War of 1812 and the inclusion of Bessarabia into Russia. Funds for the monument were collected by soldiers and officers of the 55th Podolsk Infantry Regiment. Originally located in the Bender Fortress next to the Alexander Nevsky Military Church, the monument was later moved to its current location on Panina Street during Soviet times. The monument is an obelisk of gray labradorite, topped with a bronze eagle with spread wings. An inscription on the obelisk reads: “To valiant ancestors from descendants. From the 55th Podolsk Infantry Regiment. 1912”. The reverse side also commemorates the feats of soldiers from the 55th Podolsk Infantry Regiment in the Patriotic War of 1812.
