Public Transport
From Matola, head to the nearest bus stop. You can catch a 'chapa' (shared taxi) heading to Maputo. Ensure you ask the driver to drop you at the EN1 highway. The fare should be around 10 MZN. Once dropped off, you will need to walk along the highway towards the south. Keep an eye out for signposts indicating the Maputo Special Reserve.
Bicycle Rental
If you're comfortable cycling, rent a bicycle from a local shop in Matola. Start your journey by pedaling towards the EN1 highway. Follow the highway south for about 84 km. Make sure to carry enough water and snacks for the ride, as there may not be many stops along the way. You can arrive at the entrance of the Maputo Special Reserve, which is well marked.
Walking
Walking to Maputo Special Reserve is not advisable due to the distance (approximately 84 km). However, if you wish to explore the local area first, you can take a 'chapa' to the EN1 highway and then walk towards the reserve. It is recommended to start your journey very early in the morning to avoid the midday heat. Make sure to carry plenty of water and wear appropriate clothing for the journey.
