If you are traveling by car, start your journey from Swakopmund, which is approximately 35 km north of Walvis Bay. Take the B2 highway south towards Walvis Bay. Upon entering Walvis Bay, follow the signs directing you towards the lagoon area. You will need to turn onto Lagoon Promenade Road. The Flamingo Lagoon is located at coordinates -22.9733978, 14.4785799. Look for parking areas nearby, as it can get busy, especially during peak tourist seasons.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, take a bus from Swakopmund to Walvis Bay. The trip will take around 40 minutes. Upon arrival at Walvis Bay, you can either walk (approximately 2 km) or take a taxi to Lagoon Promenade Road. Taxis are commonly available and will cost around 50 Namibian Dollars. Make sure to confirm the fare before starting your journey. Once you reach Lagoon Promenade, follow the road towards the lagoon area.
Bicycle
For the more adventurous, you can rent a bicycle in Swakopmund and cycle to Walvis Bay. The bike ride is around 35 km and offers stunning views of the desert landscape. Walking
If you're staying in Walvis Bay, Flamingo Lagoon is accessible by foot from most central locations. Depending on where you are, it may take around 30-40 minutes to walk to the lagoon. Head towards Lagoon Promenade Road, following the signs that lead to the lagoon area. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes, as the path can be uneven in places.
