If you are traveling by car from Biratnagar, head west on the Mahendra Highway (Himalayan Highway) towards Itahari. Continue for approximately 80 km until you reach the junction for the East-West Highway. Take a left turn to follow the East-West Highway towards the border area. After about 30 km, look for signs directing you to Mechi River, which is located near the border town of Kakarbhitta. Follow the local roads leading to the Mechi River area. Parking may be available near popular spots along the river.
Public Transportation
To reach Mechi River via public transportation from Biratnagar, first take a bus from Biratnagar bus station to Kakarbhitta. Buses run frequently and the journey takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. Once in Kakarbhitta, you can either take a local taxi or a rickshaw to get to the Mechi River area. The taxi ride will take around 15-20 minutes. Ensure to negotiate the fare in advance, typically it ranges from NPR 200 to NPR 400 depending on your exact destination along the river.
Rickshaw
If you are already in Kakarbhitta and need a quick way to reach the Mechi River, you can hire a rickshaw. Rickshaws are widely available and can take you directly to your desired spot along the river. It is advisable to agree on the fare before starting the ride, which generally costs around NPR 100 to NPR 300 based on distance.
