From downtown Carlsbad, head to the nearest bus stop at the intersection of Main Street and Texas Avenue. Take the 'Carlsbad Municipal Transit' bus route that goes towards the Carlsbad Airport. After approximately 15 minutes, get off at the stop near the airport. From there, you will need to transfer to another bus that goes towards San Diego. Once on the San Diego bus, ask the driver to let you know when you reach the stop for Los Penasquitos Canyon County Preserve. The preserve is located at 12020 Black Mountain Rd, San Diego, CA 92129. Be prepared for a short walk from the bus stop to the entrance.

Bicycle Rental
If you're feeling adventurous, consider renting a bicycle from one of the local shops in Carlsbad. Head east on Main Street, then take a right onto W. Fox Street, which will lead you out of town. Follow the bike path that aligns with the highway towards San Diego. Keep an eye out for signs directing you to Los Penasquitos Canyon. The total ride may take about 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on your pace. Make sure to bring water and a map.

If you prefer to walk, start from the Carlsbad City Hall located at 101 N Halagueno St. Head south on Halagueno St towards W. Fox Street. Continue walking to the edge of town and follow the path that leads you towards the highway. You will need to keep walking along the pedestrian trails that connect to San Diego. It's approximately a 3-4 hour walk, so wear comfortable shoes and be prepared for the journey.
