Getting There

• Car

  From any location in Gila Wilderness, make your way to NM-15 N. Follow NM-15 N for approximately 18 miles. You'll pass through scenic views of the wilderness. As you approach the Gila Cliff Dwellings, watch for signs indicating the turnoff for Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument. Turn left onto Jim Bradford Trail, and follow it until you reach the parking area at 26 Jim Bradford Trail, Mimbres, NM 88049. Note that the entrance to the monument does not require an entrance fee.

• Public Transportation

  Public transportation options are limited in Gila Wilderness. If you're starting from Silver City, NM, you can take a Greyhound bus to Silver City and then use a local taxi service to reach Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument. The taxi ride from Silver City to the monument is about 45 minutes and may cost approximately $50-$70 one way, depending on the taxi service. Once you arrive at the monument, you will need to walk from the parking area to the dwellings, which is about a 1-mile hike.

• Hiking

  If you're already in the Gila Wilderness and prefer a hiking route, there are trails leading to the Gila Cliff Dwellings. Make sure to have a map or GPS device. From the Gila River, take the Gila Cliff Dwellings Trail, which is well-marked and leads directly to the dwellings. This hike is approximately 1.5 miles one way, and it offers breathtaking views of the surrounding wilderness. Ensure you bring plenty of water and snacks for the journey.
