If you are traveling by car, start by heading towards the town of Costilla, New Mexico, which is approximately 30 miles northeast of Taos. From Costilla, take NM-196 west until it intersects with NM-522. Turn south on NM-522 and continue until you reach the intersection with Forest Road 197 (also known as Costilla Creek Road). Follow Forest Road 197 for about 6 miles until you reach the trailhead at the end of the road. Be aware that this road can be rough and may require a high-clearance vehicle.

The hike is challenging and requires proper gear, as the peak is about 3 miles from the trailhead and involves a significant elevation gain.
