Getting There

• Car

  If you're driving from Santa Fe, head south on NM-285 S. After approximately 5 miles, take the exit onto NM-599 N. Continue on NM-599 N for about 10 miles, then take the exit for US-84 W toward Los Alamos/Santa Fe. Merge onto US-84 W and follow it until you reach the junction with NM-502 W. Take NM-502 W for about 5 miles. Look for signs for La Cieneguilla Petroglyphs, which will point you to a dirt road leading to the petroglyph site. There is a small parking area where you can leave your vehicle. Please note, the dirt road may require a vehicle with higher clearance, depending on the conditions.

• Public Transportation

  For travelers relying on public transportation, start by taking the Santa Fe Trails bus #2 from downtown Santa Fe. This bus will take you to the South Capitol Station. From there, you will need to use a rideshare service or taxi to reach La Cieneguilla Petroglyphs, as public transportation does not reach the site directly. The approximate cost for a rideshare from South Capitol Station to the petroglyphs will be around $15-$25, depending on traffic and demand.

• Walking

  Once you have parked your vehicle at the designated parking area for La Cieneguilla Petroglyphs, prepare for a short walk of about 1/3 mile to reach the base of the hill where the petroglyphs are located. The trail is well-defined but may have uneven terrain, so wear comfortable walking shoes. Enjoy the scenery as you make your way to the petroglyphs!
