Walking
If you are starting at the White Sands Visitor Center, exit the center and head east on the main road (Dunes Drive). Continue walking along Dunes Drive for about 2.5 miles. You will pass several parking areas along the way. Keep an eye out for the Alkali Flat Trailhead sign on your left. The trailhead is located just off Dunes Drive, and you'll see a small parking lot and a trailhead marker.

From the White Sands Visitor Center, rent a bike and head east on Dunes Drive, following the same route as if you were walking. The bike ride is approximately 2.5 miles. As you approach the Alkali Flat Trailhead, you will see a sign indicating the trailhead on your left. There is space to park your bike in the small parking area near the trailhead.

Starting from any of the trails within White Sands National Park, make your way towards Dunes Drive. Once you reach Dunes Drive, head east for about 2.5 miles.
