If you're in the Catskill Mountains and have access to a car, start by heading towards the town of Shandaken, NY. From the center of Shandaken, take Route 28 West. After about 6 miles, turn right onto County Route 47 (also known as the Big Indian Road). Follow this road for approximately 1.5 miles until you reach the trailhead for Panther Mountain, which is located at the end of the road. There is a small parking area where you can leave your car. Note that there may be a parking fee, so be prepared with cash.

For those using public transportation, take the Trailways bus from New York City to the town of Kingston, NY. From Kingston, transfer to the Ulster County Area Transit (UCAT) bus that goes to Shandaken. Once in Shandaken, you will need to arrange for a taxi or rideshare service to take you to the Panther Mountain trailhead, as there is no direct public transit service to the hiking area. Make sure to check the bus schedules ahead of time as they can be limited, especially on weekends.
