Getting There

• Ferry

  To reach Sunken Forest, start by taking a ferry from Bay Shore to Fire Island. Ferries are operated by the Fire Island Ferries company, and the trip takes about 30 minutes. You can purchase tickets at the ferry terminal in Bay Shore, and prices typically range from $15 to $20 for a round trip. Once you arrive at the Fire Island terminal, you will disembark at the village of Ocean Beach.

• Walking

  From the Ocean Beach ferry terminal, you will need to walk approximately 1.5 miles to reach Sunken Forest. Head east along Ocean Beach's main street, which is called Ocean Road. Continue walking until you reach the intersection with Bay Walk. Turn left onto Bay Walk and follow it until you see the signs directing you towards Sunken Forest. The path is well-marked and will take you through scenic landscapes.

• Bicycle Rental

  For a quicker and more enjoyable journey, consider renting a bicycle in Ocean Beach. Several rental shops are available near the ferry terminal, and prices are usually around $15 to $25 for a few hours. Once you have your bike, follow Ocean Road eastward, then take Bay Walk as described above to reach Sunken Forest. Biking will reduce your travel time significantly, allowing you to enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way.

  If you prefer not to walk or bike, you can also take a water taxi from Ocean Beach to the nearest dock to Sunken Forest.
