Depending on your starting point in Long Island, you may access the park via several major routes. For example, if you're coming from the western part of Long Island, take the Long Island Expressway (I-495) towards Exit 51 South (Sagtikos Parkway). Follow Sagtikos Parkway to the Southern State Parkway, then take Exit 42 (Heckscher State Parkway) and follow the signs to the park entrance. Make sure to have cash or a credit card ready for the parking fee, which is typically around $10.
Public Transportation (Train and Bus)
To reach Heckscher State Park via public transportation, first take the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) to the Islip station. You can catch a train from Penn Station in Manhattan or from various stations along the LIRR line.
