From downtown Poughkeepsie, head to the Poughkeepsie Transit Center at 5 Mollerus Blvd. Take the Route 7 bus towards Highland or the Route 9 bus towards Fishkill. Make sure to ask the driver to let you know when you reach the West Point Visitor Center stop, or you can check the bus schedule for specific drop-off points. The journey should take around 30-40 minutes.
Train and Bus
Start at the Poughkeepsie Train Station located at 41 Main St. Take a Metro-North train towards Grand Central Terminal and get off at the Garrison station. From Garrison, catch the Short Line Bus heading to West Point. Inform the bus driver that you are going to the West Point Visitor Center. The total travel time is approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.
Bike
If you're feeling adventurous, you can rent a bike in Poughkeepsie. Start at the Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park, which offers stunning views. Ride south along the Hudson River, taking Route 9W to West Point. Follow the signs to New South Post Rd. The ride is about 12 miles and should take around 1 hour, but allow extra time for breaks and enjoying the scenery.
Walking
For those who enjoy walking, you can take a scenic route along the Hudson River. Start at the Walkway Over the Hudson and walk south along the riverfront. Follow the path towards West Point, taking care to follow pedestrian-friendly roads. It’s a long walk, roughly 12 miles, so be prepared with comfortable shoes and plenty of water. This route could take around 4-5 hours.
