Start your journey at Britomart Transport Centre in Auckland's Central Business District. Take the Western Line train towards Swanson. The train ride will take approximately 40 minutes. Disembark at the Waitakere Station. From Waitakere Station, catch the 125 bus towards Karekare. This bus will take you closer to Karekare, and the journey will take around 30 minutes. Get off the bus at the Karekare stop, which is near the Karekare Beach.

After getting off the bus at Karekare, head towards Karekare Beach. You will see signs indicating the direction to Karekare Falls. Follow the La Trobe Track. The walking trail to Karekare waterfall is approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour depending on your pace. The trail is well-marked and offers beautiful views of the surrounding nature.

Once on La Trobe Track, continue along the path which leads you through a lush forest. The sound of the waterfall will guide you. Be sure to wear proper hiking shoes as the path can be uneven. Keep an eye out for the various bird species and native flora along the way. The waterfall is a stunning sight once you reach the end of the trail.
