Bus
Start at the Christchurch Bus Interchange located at 37 Lichfield St, Christchurch Central City. Take the bus number 85 (to Kaiapoi) which departs regularly from the interchange. The bus ride will take approximately 30 minutes. Get off at the Kaiapoi stop, which is closest to the Kaiapoi River. After disembarking, walk towards the Kaiapoi River and head to the north side of the river. Follow the pathways that lead towards the Waimakariri River Regional Park entrance.

Bicycle
If you prefer to cycle, you can rent a bicycle from one of the rental shops in Christchurch. Once you have your bike, head north on Colombo Street, which will turn into Main North Road. Continue riding until you reach the intersection with the Waimakariri River. Follow the cycle paths that lead you directly to the Kaiapoi Island Trail - Forest Route. It’s approximately a 15 km ride from the city center.

For those who enjoy walking, you can take a bus to the Kaiapoi area as described above and then walk to the Kaiapoi Island Trail. From the bus stop, head towards the Kaiapoi River and then follow the walking paths along the river until you reach the entrance of the Waimakariri River Regional Park.
