Getting There

  • Walking

    Start from the Greymouth i-SITE Visitor Centre, located at 16 Mawhera Quay. Head south on Mawhera Quay towards the bridge, then cross the bridge over the Grey River. After crossing, turn left onto State Highway 6 (SH6), also known as Tainui Street. Continue walking on SH6 for approximately 2.5 kilometers. Look out for Rutherglen Road on your right. Turn right onto Rutherglen Road and walk straight for about 1.5 kilometers. Shantytown Heritage Park will be on your left at 316 Rutherglen Road.

  • Public Bus

    From the Greymouth town center, catch the West Coast Buses service towards Paroa. The bus stop is located near the Greymouth i-SITE Visitor Centre. Ask the driver to drop you off at the stop closest to Rutherglen Road. Once you get off, walk along Rutherglen Road for about 10 minutes until you reach Shantytown Heritage Park at 316 Rutherglen Road, which will be on your left.

  • Bicycle

    If you have access to a bicycle, start from the Greymouth i-SITE Visitor Centre. Head south on Mawhera Quay, cross the bridge over the Grey River, and continue onto State Highway 6 (SH6).
