If you prefer to walk, start from the central Greymouth area. Head south on Mawhera Quay towards the bridge over the Grey River. After crossing the bridge, turn left onto State Highway 6 (also known as the Main South Road). Continue walking along this road for approximately 3.5 kilometers until you reach the turn-off for Rutherglen Road. From there, follow Rutherglen Road for about 1 kilometer until you arrive at Shantytown Heritage Park. The walk will take around 1 hour and is a scenic route, allowing you to enjoy the local landscape.
