Walking
From the center of Kaikoura, start at the Kaikoura Visitor Centre located at 96 West End. Head east on West End towards the Esplanade. Turn left onto the Esplanade and walk along the coastline. Continue walking until you reach the end of the Esplanade, where you'll see a park area; this is the start of the Kaikoura Peninsula Walkway. Follow the walkway signs that lead you towards the Kaikoura Flat area.

Once you reach the end of the walkway, you will come to the Kaikoura Flat area. Look for signs pointing towards Hinau Track. The trackhead is located near the intersection of Kaikoura Flat Road and the access road leading to the track. Follow the path into the bush, where you will find the Hinau Track starting point. Make sure to have a map or download one on your phone, as the track can be less marked in some areas.
