If you are traveling by car, head towards State Highway 1. From Whangarei, take State Highway 1 north towards Kawakawa. Continue on State Highway 1 until you reach the turnoff for State Highway 10, towards Kerikeri. Follow State Highway 10 through Kerikeri and then take the turnoff to State Highway 12 towards Kaitaia. After passing Kaitaia, follow the signs to the Karikari Peninsula. Once on the peninsula, follow the road until you reach Maitai Bay Road. Follow Maitai Bay Road until you reach the campsite and beach area. This drive offers beautiful scenery and takes approximately 3 hours from Whangarei.

Once in Kaitaia, you will need to hire a taxi or use a shuttle service to reach Maitai Bay, as there is no direct public transport to the bay.
