From Kerikeri, head southwest on State Highway 10 (SH10) towards Waipapa. Continue on SH10 for approximately 28 kilometers until you reach the junction with State Highway 1 (SH1). Turn left onto SH1 and drive north for about 70 kilometers. Take the exit towards Kaitaia/Ahipara (SH1). Continue on this road until you reach Ahipara. Once in Ahipara, follow signs to the Ahipara sand dunes, which are located at the end of Foreshore Road. Parking is available near the dunes.

From Paihia, take the InterCity bus service to Kaitaia. The bus ride takes approximately 2.5 hours. Once you arrive in Kaitaia, you can take a local bus or taxi to Ahipara, which is about 20 minutes away. The local bus may require checking the schedule in advance, as it may not run frequently. Ensure to confirm the return trip timings back to Kaitaia for your convenience.
