If you are driving from Whangarei, take State Highway 1 (SH1) north towards Kaitaia. After approximately 150 kilometers, you will reach Kaitaia. From Kaitaia, continue on State Highway 1 for about 23 kilometers until you reach the turnoff for Te Paki Stream Road. Follow Te Paki Stream Road for about 10 kilometers, where you will see signs directing you to the Giant Sand Dunes. There is a small parking area at the entrance where you can leave your car.

For those using public transport, take a bus from Whangarei to Kaitaia. Intercity and other local bus services operate on this route and the journey takes about 3-4 hours. Once you arrive in Kaitaia, you will need to take a taxi or arrange for a shuttle service to Te Paki Stream Road, which is about 23 kilometers away.
