Crown Range Summit: A Majestic Alpine Experience

Getting There

• Walking

  Start your journey at Queenstown's central bus station. From there, head towards Camp Street and take a right onto Shotover Street. Continue on Shotover Street until you reach the intersection with Frankton Road. Cross Frankton Road and follow the pedestrian path along Lake Wakatipu, enjoying the views. After about 1 kilometer, you will reach the junction with State Highway 6. Turn right onto the highway and follow it for approximately 3 kilometers, where you will arrive at the base of the Crown Range Road. The summit marker is located at the top of the Crown Range Road. Note that this part of the journey is challenging as it involves elevation gain, so be prepared for a steep walk.

• Biking

  Begin your bike ride from Queenstown's central area and head towards the Frankton Track, which follows the lake. Once you reach the junction with State Highway 6, continue biking along the highway. Be cautious of traffic as you ascend Crown Range Road. The biking path can be steep but offers stunning views. It is approximately 6 kilometers from the highway junction to the Crown Range Summit marker. Ensure your bike is equipped for uphill travel, and remember to bring water and snacks for the journey.

• Hiking

  For those looking for a more adventurous route, you can start your hike from Queenstown. Begin at the Queenstown Hill walking track, which is well-marked and takes you up towards the Skyline area. From the summit of Queenstown Hill, follow the ridgeline towards the Crown Range. This route requires good fitness and navigation skills, as it involves rugged terrain. Once you reach the Crown Range Road, the summit marker is a short walk away. Be sure to equip yourself with a map, plenty of water, and suitable hiking gear.
