    If you're traveling by car, start your journey from Invercargill, which is approximately 2 hours (140 km) away from the Westernmost Point of the South Island. Take State Highway 1 (SH1) north from Invercargill toward Gore. After about 30 km, take the exit onto State Highway 96 (SH96) towards Tuatapere. Follow SH96 for about 60 km until you reach the town of Tuatapere. From there, continue onto the Western Southland road, which leads directly to the Westernmost Point. Watch for signs indicating the direction to the Westernmost Point, as they will guide you through the final stretch. The last few kilometers will be on gravel roads, so drive carefully. Note that there are no tolls on this route.
