Getting There

  • Bus

    From Wellington's central business district, head to the nearest bus stop for the number 1 bus (Wellington's main bus route). Board the bus heading towards 'Island Bay' or 'Houghton Bay'. After about 25-30 minutes, get off at the 'Ōwhiro Bay' stop. Once you disembark, you will be at the junction of the road leading into Ōwhiro Bay. From here, walk towards the coast and take the path that leads up into the hills which is marked by signs indicating the route to Hawkins Hill.

Follow the signs for the 'Southern Walkway'. This pathway will take you through several parks and reserves. After a couple of hours of walking, you will reach the base of Hawkins Hill. From the base, there is a steep but short track leading to the Radar Dome, where you can enjoy stunning views of the city and the surrounding coastline.
