Getting There

  • Bus

    From Wellington's central bus terminal (located at 81-83 Ghuznee Street), catch the number 1 or 2 bus heading towards Karori. Make sure to get off at the 'Kelburn' stop. From there, walk up Salamanca Road. Space Place at Carter Observatory is located at 40 Salamanca Road, approximately a 10-minute walk up the hill.

  • Walking

    If you are already in the central city, you can walk to Space Place. Start at the Wellington Waterfront and head towards Victoria University. Follow the signs to Kelburn, which will guide you up the hill. The walk is approximately 30 minutes and will take you through some beautiful parks and gardens. Once you reach Salamanca Road, Space Place at Carter Observatory will be on your left.

  • Cable Car

    You can take the famous Wellington Cable Car from Lambton Quay. Board the cable car at the station and enjoy the ride up to the Kelburn terminal. Once you exit the cable car, follow the signs for the Botanic Gardens and then continue along the path that leads to Salamanca Road. Space Place at Carter Observatory is a short walk from the cable car terminal, located at 40 Salamanca Road.
