Getting There

  • Walking

    From Kelburn, head down the hill towards the Wellington Cable Car station located at 280 Lambton Quay. This will take approximately 15-20 minutes on foot. Once you reach the Cable Car station, purchase a ticket for a round trip, which costs around NZD 9 for adults (children are cheaper). Take the Cable Car down to the Lambton Quay stop.

    After exiting the Cable Car, walk south along Lambton Quay towards the waterfront. Continue walking for about 10 minutes until you reach the intersection with Cable Street. Turn left onto Cable Street, and the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa will be located at 55 Cable Street, just a few minutes' walk away.

    Alternatively, if you prefer to take a bus, walk to the nearest bus stop at Kelburn Parade and catch the number 18 bus towards the city. The bus ride will take around 10-15 minutes. Get off at the stop near the Wellington Waterfront (near Jervois Quay). From there, it’s a short 5-10 minute walk to the museum at 55 Cable Street.
