Getting There

  • Walking

    From the central Thorndon area, head towards the Wellington Botanic Garden. You can enter the garden from Glenmore Street. Walk through the garden, enjoying the scenery, and follow the signs towards the Cable Car. After exiting the garden, take the Cable Car from the station at Upland Road to the Kelburn terminal. This ride will give you a great view of Wellington. Once you arrive at the Kelburn terminal, exit the cable car station and walk down the steps towards Salamanca Road. Space Place at Carter Observatory is a short 5-minute walk down Salamanca Road, located at 40 Salamanca Road, Kelburn.

  • Public Transport - Bus

    Locate the nearest bus stop in Thorndon, such as the one on Tinakori Road. You can take the number 22 or 23 bus heading towards Kelburn. The bus fare is approximately NZD $2.50 to $4.00 depending on how far you are traveling. Get off at the 'Kelburn' stop. After getting off, walk up Salamanca Road (approximately a 10-minute walk), and you will find Space Place at Carter Observatory at 40 Salamanca Road.
