If you are driving, start from the town of Moyogalpa, which is one of the main access points on Ometepe Island. Head northeast on the main road (Carretera) and follow the signs towards Altagracia. This route is scenic, with beautiful views of the surrounding nature. After approximately 30 minutes of driving, you will reach Altagracia. Continue past Altagracia for about 10 minutes until you reach the junction with the road leading to Río Istián. Turn left onto this road and drive for about 5 minutes until you see the river on your right. You can park nearby and walk towards the riverbank.

Public Transportation
To reach Río Istián via public transportation, first head to the main bus terminal in Moyogalpa. Look for the bus that travels to Altagracia; these buses run frequently throughout the day. The fare is typically around 20 Nicaraguan Cordobas ($0.60). After about 30 minutes, you will arrive in Altagracia. From Altagracia, you can take a shared taxi (also known as a 'colectivo') to the junction leading to Río Istián. The colectivo fare should be around 10 Cordobas ($0.30). Once you reach the junction, it's a short walk (about 5 minutes) to the river. Just follow the road that leads to the riverbank.
