If you are driving in Cape Fear, first set your GPS or map application to 'Pleasure Island, Kure Beach, NC 28449'. From downtown Wilmington, head south on US-421 S for about 15 miles. Continue straight onto Fort Fisher Blvd S. Follow the signs towards Fort Fisher State Recreation Area. After crossing the bridge over the Cape Fear River, continue on Fort Fisher Blvd S until you reach the Battery Buchanan area, which is located within the Fort Fisher State Recreation Area. There is no entrance fee for the park, but parking may be limited during peak times.

For those using public transportation, take the Wave Transit bus service from Wilmington to Kure Beach. Board the Route 201 bus at the Wilmington Transit Center. The journey will take about 40 minutes. Once you arrive at Kure Beach, disembark at the Kure Beach stop. From there, it is approximately a 1-mile walk to Battery Buchanan. Head south on Fort Fisher Blvd, then turn right onto Fort Fisher Recreation Area. Please check the Wave Transit schedule in advance to ensure you arrive on time, as services may vary.

If you prefer cycling, you can rent a bicycle in Wilmington and ride to Battery Buchanan. Start on the Riverwalk and head south towards the Fort Fisher ferry terminal.
