Getting There

• Car

  If you are already in Ouachita National Forest and have access to a car, head towards the town of Perryville, Arkansas. From Perryville, take AR-9 N for approximately 12 miles. You will reach the intersection with AR-10 W. Turn left onto AR-10 W and continue for about 5 miles. Look for the Flatside Wilderness area entrance signs on your right. Parking is available at designated areas near the wilderness entrance. Ensure to check for any parking fees that might apply.

• Public Transportation

  Public transportation options are limited in the Ouachita National Forest area. The nearest larger town is Little Rock, Arkansas. From Little Rock, you can take a Greyhound bus or a similar service to Perryville. Once in Perryville, you will need to use a taxi or rideshare service to reach the Flatside Wilderness entrance, as there are no public buses that directly serve this area. Be sure to check the transport schedules in advance and budget for taxi fares.

• Hiking

  If you are already in the surrounding areas of the Ouachita National Forest and prefer a more adventurous route, you can hike into the Flatside Wilderness from nearby trails. Ensure you have a trail map and check the conditions of the trails before starting your hike. Remember to bring plenty of water and snacks, as access to facilities may be limited once you start your hike.
