Public Bus

To reach Horsetail Falls from the center of Hood River, begin by taking the Columbia Area Transit (CAT) bus. Head to the nearest bus stop and catch the Route 1 bus towards The Dalles. Once you disembark, follow the signs for Horsetail Falls which is approximately a 1.5-mile walk along the Historic Columbia River Highway.

Start your ride heading west on Oak Street and merge onto the Historic Columbia River Highway. Continue on the highway; be sure to watch for signs directing you to Horsetail Falls. For the more adventurous and fit tourists, you can walk to Horsetail Falls. Start at the center of Hood River, head south on 3rd Street until it merges with the Historic Columbia River Highway. Continue along this road for about 8 miles. Along the way, enjoy the beautiful scenery. Once you see the sign for Horsetail Falls, take the short trail from the highway down to the waterfall. This is a long walk, so be prepared with plenty of water and snacks.
