Walking
From the center of Hood River, head east on Oak Street toward 2nd Street. Continue onto the Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail. This trail is well-marked and follows the river, offering beautiful views along the way. Walk approximately 5 miles until you reach the parking area for the trailhead to Ponytail Falls. The trail to the falls is well-signed; follow the signs to the falls, which is a short hike of about 0.5 miles.
Biking
Rent a bike from one of the local rental shops in Hood River. Start your journey on Oak Street, heading east. Follow the bike path along the Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail for about 5 miles. The path is mostly flat and suitable for all skill levels. Once you arrive at the Ponytail Falls trailhead, park your bike and take the short 0.5-mile hike to the falls.
Public Transit
Take the Columbia Area Transit (CAT) bus from Hood River. Board the bus at the nearest stop to your location heading toward Cascade Locks. Inform the driver you want to get off at the Historic Columbia River Highway stop. Once you disembark, walk back along the highway toward the Ponytail Falls trailhead, which is approximately a 1-mile walk. The trail to the falls is easy to spot.
