Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving from Leh, the capital of Ladakh, head north on NH 1 towards Nubra Valley. The drive is approximately 120 km and takes around 4 to 5 hours. You will pass through the Khardung La Pass, one of the highest motorable roads in the world. Make sure to check the weather conditions before heading out, as the pass can be closed during heavy snowfall. After crossing the pass, continue straight until you reach Diskit. Look for signposts indicating 'Diskit' as you approach the town.

• Public Transportation (Shared Taxi)

  To reach Diskit via public transportation, you can catch a shared taxi from Leh. Head to the Leh taxi stand located near the main market. Shared taxis depart when they are full and the journey will take about 4 to 5 hours. The fare is approximately ₹600-₹800 per person. Ensure you ask the driver to drop you at Diskit Gompa directly, as some taxis may drop passengers at the Diskit town center.

• Public Transportation (Bus)

  Another economical option is to take a bus from Leh to Diskit. The buses leave from the Leh bus stand and operate on a limited schedule, usually once a day. The journey takes around 5 to 6 hours and costs about ₹300-₹400. It is advisable to check the bus schedule a day in advance. Upon arrival in Diskit, you can hire a local taxi or walk to Diskit Gompa, which is approximately 2 km from the bus stop. Follow the signs leading to the monastery.

• Local Transport (Taxi or Rickshaw)

  Once you reach Diskit town, you can hire a local taxi or auto-rickshaw to get to Diskit Gompa. The distance from Diskit town to the monastery is about 2 km. The fare for a taxi or rickshaw is usually around ₹50-₹100. Ensure to negotiate the fare before starting your journey. The route is straightforward, and you will see signage directing you to the Gompa.
