Walking
If you are in the main area of Portobelo, start at the Portobelo Bay. Head east along the waterfront promenade, passing local shops and restaurants. Continue walking for about 10 minutes until you reach the intersection with Avenida Central. Turn left onto Avenida Central and walk north. After about 5 minutes, you will see the entrance to Ruinas de Portobelo, Fuerte Santiago on your right side. The ruins are easily recognizable by the stone structures and historical markers.

From the Portobelo Church (Iglesia de San Felipe), exit the church and head towards the main road (Avenida Central). Turn right, and walk along Avenida Central for about 15 minutes. You will pass by local markets and vendors. Look for the signs indicating Ruinas de Portobelo, Fuerte Santiago; the entrance will be on your left, just after you cross a small bridge.
