If you're in the Gettysburg town center, start at the Gettysburg National Military Park Visitor Center located at 1195 Baltimore Pike. From there, head southwest on Baltimore Pike towards Steinwehr Avenue. After about 0.5 miles, turn left onto Steinwehr Avenue and continue walking straight for another 0.3 miles until you reach the intersection with Cemetery Hill. Continue onto Cemetery Hill, and you will find Evergreen Cemetery on your right. The Grave of John L. Burns is located within the cemetery. Look for the markers indicating notable graves, and the grave of John L. Burns is near the center.

If you prefer biking, rent a bike from a local shop in Gettysburg. Start at the Gettysburg National Military Park Visitor Center and take the same route as walking. Bike along Baltimore Pike heading southwest. Turn left onto Steinwehr Avenue and keep going until you reach Cemetery Hill. Once you enter Evergreen Cemetery, park your bike at the designated bike racks near the entrance and walk to the Grave of John L. Burns.

During the tourist season, the Gettysburg Trolley operates a shuttle service that can take you to various historical sites. Board the trolley at any of the trolley stops in town, and ask the driver to drop you off at Evergreen Cemetery.
