Getting There

Car
If you're traveling by car from Urubamba, head northeast on Av. Ferrocarril. Continue straight for about 6 km until you reach the entrance of the Machu Picchu Historic Sanctuary. From there, take the road leading to the Machu Picchu parking area. After parking, you will need to hike approximately 1.5 km uphill along a well-marked trail to reach the Sun Gate (Inti Punku). Make sure to have your entrance tickets ready, as they are checked at the sanctuary entrance.

From Urubamba, take a public bus heading to Ollantaytambo. The bus ride will take about 30 minutes and costs around 5 soles. In Ollantaytambo, transfer to a bus that goes to Aguas Calientes, which typically costs around 30 soles and takes about 1.5 hours. Once in Aguas Calientes, purchase your entrance to Machu Picchu and take the bus up to the site (costing about 24 soles). After visiting Machu Picchu, hike the trail to the Sun Gate, which is about 1.5 km and offers stunning views of the ruins.

From Urubamba, you can also take a taxi to Ollantaytambo train station (approximately 15 soles for the taxi). From there, board the train to Aguas Calientes, which costs between 60 to 80 soles depending on the service. Once you arrive in Aguas Calientes, take the bus up to Machu Picchu (24 soles). After exploring Machu Picchu, hike the trail to the Sun Gate, located about 1.5 km from the main ruins.
