Car
If you are traveling by car, start your journey from the city of Abancay, the capital of Apurímac. Head west on the PE-3S road towards Cachora. The drive will take approximately 3 hours (around 90 km). Once you reach Cachora, you can park your car in the designated parking area. From here, you will need to continue your journey on foot or hire a local guide, as there are no direct roads to Choquequirao.
Public Transportation
For those opting for public transportation, take a bus from Abancay to Cachora. Buses leave regularly from the main bus terminal and the journey takes about 3 hours. Once you arrive in Cachora, you can find local guides who offer trekking services to Choquequirao. The trek from Cachora to Choquequirao takes around 2-3 days, depending on your pace and the route taken. It's important to arrange for a local guide, as the trails can be challenging.
Hiking
After reaching Cachora, prepare for a trek to Choquequirao. The hiking trail is approximately 30 km long and involves a significant elevation gain. Make sure to pack sufficient supplies, including food, water, and camping gear if you plan to stay overnight. The trek offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. It is highly recommended to hire a guide for safety and to enhance your experience.
