To reach Ausangate by car, start from Cusco and drive southeast on the Route 3S. After about 3.5 hours (approximately 110 km), you will arrive at the town of Tinki. From Tinki, continue driving for about 30 minutes on a dirt road leading to the Ausangate trailhead, where you can park your vehicle. Ensure that your car is suitable for rough terrain. It is advisable to have a local map or GPS for navigation as the roads may not be well-marked.
Public Transportation (Bus)
From Cusco, take a bus from the Terminal Terrestre (bus terminal) to Tinki. Buses leave frequently and the journey takes around 3 to 4 hours. Once you arrive at Tinki, you can hire a local taxi or take a shared taxi to the Ausangate trailhead. The taxi ride will take about 30 minutes and may cost around 20-30 soles (approximately $5-8 USD). Be prepared for possible delays in the bus service.
Trekking
If you are already on the Ausangate Trek, follow the established trails leading towards the Ausangate Glacier. The nearest campsite is usually at the base of the mountain. From there, it will take around 1-2 hours of hiking to reach the glacier viewpoint, depending on your pace.
