Car
If you're traveling by car, start your journey in Cusco. From the city center, head southwest on Av. El Sol towards Av. de la Cultura. Continue onto Av. La Cultura, then merge onto the Pan-American Highway (PE-3S) heading towards Abancay. After approximately 4 hours of driving, take the exit towards Curahuasi/Choquequirao. Follow the signs for Choquequirao Trek and continue along the winding mountain roads. After about 2 hours, you will arrive at the trailhead for Choquequirao, from where you can hike to Huacra pukara.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, take a bus from Cusco to San Pedro. Once in San Pedro, find a bus heading to Cachora, which is the starting point for the Choquequirao Trek. The bus ride will take around 4 hours. From Cachora, you will need to either hire a local guide or trek yourself towards Huacra pukara. The trek to Huacra pukara can take several hours, so ensure you have proper hiking gear and enough supplies.
Hiking
From the Choquequirao trailhead in Cachora, follow the marked path leading towards Huacra pukara. The trek involves a steep ascent, taking you through various ecosystems and offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape. It is advisable to start early in the day to avoid hiking in the heat. The total hike to Huacra pukara can take approximately 6-8 hours depending on your pace.
