Car
From Cusco, drive towards the town of Ollantaytambo, approximately 1.5 hours away. From Ollantaytambo, continue to the town of Santa Teresa, which is about 3 hours away. Once in Santa Teresa, park your car in a secure lot. You will need to take a taxi or local transport to the hydroelectric station. From there, you can either hike or take a train to Aguas Calientes, the closest town to Machu Picchu. From Aguas Calientes, take a bus to Huayna Picchu.
Public Transportation
Begin your journey in Cusco by taking a bus to Ollantaytambo, which takes about 2 hours. After arriving at Ollantaytambo, catch a minibus to Santa Teresa (approximately 3 hours). Upon reaching Santa Teresa, hire a taxi or take local transport to the hydroelectric station. From there, you can hike to Aguas Calientes or take a train if you prefer. Once in Aguas Calientes, board a bus that will take you directly to the entrance of Huayna Picchu.
Hiking
If you are already on the Choquequirao Trek, you'll need to hike down to the Apurímac River, then climb up to the hydroelectric station area. This trek can take several hours and requires good physical condition. Once you reach the hydroelectric station, follow the trail to Aguas Calientes, where you can take a bus to Huayna Picchu.
