Car
If you are driving, start from the town of Chivay, which is the main hub in Colca Canyon. Head south on the main road (Route 30A) for approximately 20 kilometers until you reach the town of Coporaque. From Coporaque, take a left onto a dirt road that leads you towards Chuañuma. Continue on this road for about 15 kilometers. You will see signs indicating the way to Volcan Marhuas. The final stretch may require a high-clearance vehicle due to uneven terrain. Make sure to have a GPS or a map, as cell service can be spotty in remote areas.
Public Transportation
To reach Volcan Marhuas via public transportation, you will first need to take a bus or shared taxi from Chivay to Coporaque. Buses leave regularly from Chivay's main bus terminal, and the fare is typically around 5 PEN. Once in Coporaque, you will need to hire a local taxi or a mototaxi to take you to Chuañuma. The taxi fare to Chuañuma is about 30 PEN. From Chuañuma, you can either hike to Volcan Marhuas or arrange for a local guide who can take you closer to the volcano. Ensure to agree on the return fare with the driver or guide before starting your journey.
Hiking
For adventurous travelers, hiking to Volcan Marhuas can be a rewarding experience. Start from Chuañuma, where you can ask locals for the best trails leading to the volcano.
