Bus
From the center of Huaraz, head to the main bus terminal, known as Terminal Terrestre, located on Avenida Luzuriaga. You can take a taxi or a short walk to get there. Once at the terminal, look for a bus company that offers services to Chavín de Huantar. The most common companies are 'Movil Tours' or 'Transporte Chavín'. The journey will take approximately 2-3 hours. The buses usually leave every hour, but it's best to check the current schedule at the terminal. When you arrive at Chavín de Huantar, you will be dropped off near the archaeological site entrance.
Collective Taxi
Another option is to take a collective taxi (shared taxi) from Huaraz to Chavín de Huantar. You can find these taxis at the same bus terminal (Terminal Terrestre) or along the main streets. Look for a taxi that has 'Chavín' on the windshield. These taxis leave once they are full, so there may be a short wait. The ride will take about 2 hours. Make sure to confirm the fare before getting in, which should be around 15-20 soles per person.
Walking
If you are feeling adventurous and in good shape, you can hike to Chavín de Huantar. Start from Huaraz and head towards the Callejón de Huaylas valley. The trek is challenging and will take approximately 6-8 hours, so it's only recommended for experienced hikers. Make sure to carry enough water, snacks, and a map. The route is scenic but can be difficult, so ensure you're well-prepared and informed about the terrain.
