Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car from the North Coast region of Peru, you will need to head towards Cusco first. Start by taking the Pan-American Highway (Carretera Panamericana) south. This route will take you through several towns. After approximately 20 hours of driving, you will reach Cusco. Once in Cusco, navigate to Urb Tupac Amaru - Ventura Monjaras O1-15b, which is the starting point for the Ausangate Trek. Be prepared for winding mountain roads and potential altitude sickness as you gain elevation.

• Bus

  For those using public transportation, take a long-distance bus from any major city on the North Coast (like Trujillo or Piura) to Cusco. Companies such as Cruz del Sur or Oltursa offer comfortable overnight buses that take around 18 to 20 hours. Once you arrive at the Cusco bus terminal, you can either take a taxi or use public transportation to reach Urb Tupac Amaru - Ventura Monjaras O1-15b, which is centrally located in Cusco. Expect to pay around 10-20 soles for a taxi from the bus terminal to your destination.

• Local Transport

  Once you are in Cusco, you might need to hire a local guide or join a tour group to begin the Ausangate Trek. Many travel agencies in the area offer packages that include transportation to the trek starting point, meals, and guided tours. It's advisable to book this in advance, and prices can vary significantly, so expect to pay anywhere from 700 to 1500 soles depending on the length of the trek and included services.
