Car
If you are traveling by car, start your journey from the city of Chachapoyas. Head east on the PE-3N highway towards the town of Cocachimba. The drive is approximately 30 km and will take around 1 hour. The last stretch before reaching Cocachimba is a well-marked road, so follow the signs carefully. Once in Cocachimba, you can find parking areas near the trailhead to Catarata Gocta.
Public Transportation
To reach Catarata Gocta using public transportation, begin in Chachapoyas. Head to the main bus terminal and look for buses or collectivos heading to Cocachimba. The journey takes about 1 hour and costs around 10-15 soles. Upon arrival in Cocachimba, you will need to walk or take a local taxi to the trailhead. Ensure you ask the driver to drop you off at the entrance to the Gocta waterfall trail.
Walking
Once you arrive in Cocachimba, the trailhead to Catarata Gocta is clearly marked. The hike to the waterfall is about 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) one way and takes approximately 2-3 hours depending on your pace. The trek is well-maintained but can be steep in some areas, so wear comfortable hiking shoes and carry water. The trails are surrounded by beautiful scenery, so take your time to enjoy the views.
