Car
If you're traveling by car, start from the city of Casma, which is the nearest urban center. Take the Pan-American Highway (Carretera Panamericana) heading north. After about 10 kilometers, look for signs directing you to Carretera a Chankillo. Turn onto Carretera a Chankillo, and continue for approximately 14 kilometers. You will see signs for Complejo Astronómico Chankillo along the way. The site will be on your right as you approach.
Public Transportation
To reach Complejo Astronómico Chankillo using public transportation, first take a bus from Casma to the town of Chankillo. Buses are available from the main bus terminal in Casma, and the journey takes about 30 minutes. Once you arrive in Chankillo, you can hire a local taxi or a motorbike taxi to take you the remaining 5 kilometers to the archaeological site. Be sure to agree on a fare before starting your journey. The total cost for the taxi ride should be around 10-15 soles.
Combination of Transportation
Alternatively, you can take a bus from Casma to the town of Chankillo and then walk the remaining distance to Complejo Astronómico Chankillo. The walk is about 5 kilometers and can take around 1 hour. It’s a scenic route, so make sure to enjoy the views along the way. This option is ideal for travelers who wish to explore the surroundings more closely. Ensure you have water and sun protection, as there may be limited shade.
