Car
If you are traveling by car, start by heading towards the town of Puerto Maldonado. From there, follow the signs to Tambopata National Reserve. The journey will take approximately 30 minutes. Once you reach the entrance of the reserve, you will need to park your car at the designated parking area. Note that parking fees may apply, typically around 5 to 10 soles. After parking, proceed to the main entrance where you will need to register and pay an entrance fee, which is around 20 soles per person.

Public Transport
To reach Lago Sandoval via public transportation, take a bus from Puerto Maldonado to the Tambopata National Reserve entrance. Buses leave regularly from the main bus terminal and cost approximately 5 soles per person. Once you arrive at the reserve entrance, you will need to purchase an entrance ticket for around 20 soles. From the entrance, you have to walk for about 3 kilometers to reach the lake. This walk can take around 1 hour and is through a beautiful forested area.

Boat
After reaching the entrance of the reserve, you may need to take a boat to get to Lago Sandoval. Depending on where you park or how you arrived, a motorboat can be hired for about 30 soles per person. The boat ride typically takes about 15-20 minutes and will take you directly to the shores of Lago Sandoval. Make sure to negotiate and confirm the price before boarding the boat.
